Going to a boat show soon? We are! We thought it would be helpful to share a few tips on "how to be a boat show consumer". Seems easy, right? Buy a ticket and walk in. While there is nothing wrong with this approach, there is a lot going on at shows, and it is easy to become overwhelmed. Companies spend a lot of money bringing some of their best equipment to show off. Even more importantly, they bring their most knowledgeable staff along. They do all of this for YOU, the consumer!
- Narrow down a range of products you are really interested in, look on boat show websites and the list of exhibitors. This will help you navigate your way around the show, and maximize your time in the areas most important to you.
- If you are interested in a particular company, do some research prior to the show and become familiar with their new products. This allows you to skip the canned sales pitch and cut to your important questions.
- Engage the exhibitors. Ask them questions. Why did they put that knob there, instead of there? Tell them what you would have done (as nicely as possible). For most companies, this is their chance to share their geeky obsession about boating products.
- Bring a camera and a Sharpie. You never know who might be walking down the dock or showing up at a booth. Plus a few well taken photos will make a great picture to put up online.
Most importantly let us know what you found exciting! We will be posting and tweeting about all the shows we are going to over the next few weeks. Tweet us @FirstMateYC or shoot us an email at info@FirstMateYachtCare.com.
